Trainings & Presentations
Maine Land Legacy offers community trainings that help people talk more clearly and confidently about the future of land. These sessions are designed for towns, conservation commissions, land trusts, civic groups, and engaged community members who want practical guidance they can use to protect the places they love.
Conservation Options for Private Landowners
A practical presentation for families, community members, and local leaders who want a clearer understanding of the tools available for conserving privately owned land. Topics include Current Use tax programs, conservation easements, donating or selling land, family ownership structures such as LLCs or trusts, and funding programs that may help make conservation financially possible.
Participants leave with a better grasp of how different options fit different goals, and why the hardest part is often not the legal tool itself, but the family conversation around it. This content pairs well with an overview of a town’s open space plan, a land trusts’ conservation priorities or information on how to care for land such as invasive species management. Approximately 60 minutes with Q&A. Download Description.
Talking with Your Neighbors About Conservation
This 2-hour facilitated training equips community members with the knowledge and confidence to start conversations about conservation — one of the most meaningful things neighbors can do for the places they love. It combines short presentations, small group reflection, and practice exercises. The tone is warm, practical, and grounded by real situations. Designed for groups of 8–25 people.
The training emphasizes a gentle, neighbor-to-neighbor approach: lead with curiosity, stay in your lane, avoid legal or tax advice, and help people connect with the right next resource when they are ready. Download Description.
